To start off, there really are a lot of perks to being a freelance photographer in the current world. photography isn't an easy job unless you know exactly what you're doing. It can get really tricky sometimes, especially when it's in the editing phase. Your customers do not really understand the gist of editing and how long of a process it can be, hence rushing may not give them the best results.
A major struggle in the photography business as a freelancer is that you will have to start with really low prices since people don't really know you and will definitely not be happy to pay a lot to someone they haven't heard off before. But then again, that’s the challenge isn't it! Although in our current digital world, it has become way harder to start a business successfully since industries have become rather competitive . Likewise, if one photographer has come up with a great idea that is actually a replica, it won’t be as successful since it has already been discovered by a previous photographer.
However, just like there are cons to any business, there are definitely pros too! For example, when you are a freelancer, you are your own boss! You don't have someone bossing you around and on top of your head most of the time. This advantage also gives have flexible hours and more time to prioritize and organize your life.
Similarly, photography is all about creativity and playing around with angles and tools. Seriously! Any random tool you find at your home, if it can be used with the right angle and the right pose, it could create an image full of creativity and innovation! And the best part is, no one would ever know what you used to click that wonderful shot! One more thing which is my personal favorite, when you are your own boss and slowly succeed in the market, you have the choice to choose your own clients.
Although that may seem strange, some clients could really be hectic to work with to the level that they would not take your business seriously! So when you grow in the future, you have the choice to refuse difficult clients who would most probably waste your time. In fact, this happened to me once by a client who did not take me seriously at all and ending up not coming to the shooting!
Conclusively, I personally believe photography is made for people with wide imaginations and artistic minds. If you’re one that like to stand out there and come up with great ideas full of creativity and innovation, then you are fit to be great one day!
